Victorian Dolls' House
West End The playful brief for this Edinburgh home is evident from the moment you set foot inside. An antiquated office space set in a Victorian townhouse has undergone a process of restoration that has transformed the office space into a 3-bedroom house redolent of its character and soul. The original Victorian framework provides a traditional backdrop for a layered mix of furniture and fabrics, that conspires to produce a tapestry reminiscent of different eras. Original terrazzo stone flooring travels along the property's connecting spine, combined with walnut chevron and natural sisal - a marriage of design inventiveness. Each room has been given its own personality, with colours inspired by the Scottish landscape. All furniture has been sourced from hand-picked antique dealers and auction houses across the UK. Miss Honey
Upper Wardington An early 19th century cottage which was imbued with exquisite charm and authentic character, nestled within a picturesque village backdrop. That setting was the inspiration for a rejuvenation process to blend its historical attributes within a modern context.
The decoration is intentionally simple, with a neutral colour palette throughout to promote the dramatic impact created by the wooden timber beams. As you move through the house, the rooms have different personalities that are brought to life by flashes of olive green, chalky yellow and a cobalt blue wallpaper, block printed in India. Pieces dating from the 18th and 19th centuries sourced from Belgium and West Asia add a sense of timelessness. Read more -
Playfair's Playground
New Town This project was a late Georgian flat perched on a cobbled corner in Edinburgh’s New Town. Inspiration was drawn from the client’s love of pastel colours and 19th century design, whilst staying true to the building’s traditional features. A Sulking Room pink bathroom combined with original red metro tiles strike a balance between elegance and the eccentric.
A monochrome chequerboard floor was chosen for an injection of fun. Added depth was created using materials such as a brick tiled fireplace hearth and a slate kitchen floor. All furniture pieces were sourced from hand-picked antique dealers and action houses across the UK. Read more
